What is Integration? Integration is how well, or poorly, our psyche and body are doing at incorporating our experiences and bringing forth our best, most whole self. We digest our experiences like we digest an apple – we eat it and turn it into us, without having to think about it. But when someone has an intense experience that they just can’t digest it can cause problems, like undigested food can cause a stomach ache. This can happen with all kinds of experiences, not just psychedelics – loss in the family, birth in the family, and other big changes like moving, breakups, or switching careers. Yet with psychedelics, we are purposefully bringing in the changes, shaking up our minds like a snow globe to bring scientifically proven, significant healing to our psyche. Integration helps us bring our experiences home, so we can move forward in a good way.
Sometimes psychedelics blow the heart and mind wide open. Sometimes people have ecstatic, frightening, confusing, painful or mystical experiences. Sometimes we are called to make big changes in how we show up in the world. And sometimes we need help to integrate or digest these changes and live the truth we discover, such as how to BE more LOVING rather than just thinking ‘I should be more loving.’
How can acupuncture help? There is an acupoint (and herbal formula) for everything, from a racing mind, heart ache, feeling unable to connect with others, to more simple things like pain. Sometimes psychedelics bring on an existential crisis (though life without any mind-altering substances can do the same) and I absolutely love working with people who are questioning who they are and why they are here. Acupuncture works by regulating the nervous system, not through talking like psychotherapy, though I do talk with you about your experience, if you are ready for that. It’s not my job to tell you the answers, but to help you find the peace, clarity, and bravery to find those answers and live into them for yourself.
There is a psychedelic renaissance happening in our culture, that is part of a larger cultural shift. If you find yourself swept off your feet, I can help you ground again. I can also work without acupuncture, treating with traditional Chinese herbal therapies, tuning forks, acupressure, tapping/Emotional Freedom Technique, and guided meditations, guided drum journeys, and many other tools. I have a Masters in Acupuncture in the Five Element Tradition, which is well suited to treating psycho-spiritual issues. I have also done training specifically to treat trauma and practice Trauma Informed Care, and have done specialized training from Psychedelics Today for psychedelic integration for professionals. I am also a minister and pastoral counselor.
